Babies sleep a lot. Often times however they are awake when parents least expect them to be! Whatever the case, several new thoughts on where and how babies should sleep have come forth in recent months that provide guidelines that address the prevention of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and other hazards to breathing.

  1. Back to sleep. Babies should ALWAYS be put to sleep on their backs.
  2. Remove all soft articles from baby’s crib that could potentially obstruct breathing.
  3. New guidelines suggest that allowing a newborn to sleep in a bassinet in the parent’s room up to one year of age is beneficial. However, it is NOT recommended that babies sleep in the bed with parents.

Hopefully, these tips will be useful for babies and parents alike!
