When selecting a stroller consider the following tips

• Avoid leaving your toddler unattended in a stroller. 

• Consider the fact that most injuries occur  when children are not properly buckled in. Young children can fall out and bump their heads quite badly. So remember buckle up for safety!

• If you have been shopping and have several bags, try to avoid hanging them off the handles because this can cause the stroller to become unbalanced and fall over backwards. Buy a stroller that has a basket or carrier built in underneath to store your bags in.

• Before you buy a stroller, make sure it has a wide base and rear wheels that are situated behind your toddler. This is to avoid your toddler tumbling out if he rocks backwards and forwards or from side-to-side.

• Test the brakes to make sure they are working well. If you can buy a stroller that has a brake for two of the wheels, do it. Two are safer than one!

• Buy a stroller that has two latches for collapsing it down - this is a good back up to avoid accidentally having the stroller collapse on your little one.

• When you stop, always put on the brakes and keep one hand on the handles at all times. Strollers have rolled away while  parents are distracted, and you don't want it to accidentally roll into a lake or road!
